   LOCOMOTIVES OF THE G.W.R. (PART 2) 1110-9799

This list details the G.W.R. locomotives in service between 1922 and 1970. For completeness sake some locomotives, which were withdrawn just prior to the Grouping, have been included. Although half of the smaller companies were absorbed on 1.1.22, for others this occurred later:

1.7.22: B. & M.R., B.P. & G.V.R., N. & B.R.

1.1.23: G.V.R., L. & M.M.R., S.W.M.R.

1.7.23: M.S.W.J.R., S.H.T.

1.1.24: P. & M.

During this period some locomotives were withdrawn and their numbers were reallocated to engines absorbed later; this explains apparent duplications in the list.

The format is as follows:

number-builder-class and wheel arrangement; maximum length of service of the whole class/batch; G pregrouping numbers or N previous numbers, where applicable; other notes

'class' in lower case refers to the designation of the pregrouping company        Click for numbers 2206-9799
