LOCOMOTIVES OF THE L.N.E.R.

This list details the L.N.E.R. locomotives in service between 1946 and 1970. For details of classes withdrawn prior to 1946 and pregrouping classes, see the other files. Metropolitan Railway and M. & G.N. locomotives are fully listed separately. The format is as follows:

number-builder-class; pre-1946 numbers (N) (NOT the partial renumbering of 1942,); maximum length of service of the whole class; other notes

For information on the wheel arrangements see the summary table below. For information on the renumbering scheme of 1946 and others see the appropriate file.

'class' in lower case refers to the designation of the pregrouping company.

Unless stated otherwise the listing of classes within a range of numbers (N) is not sequential. The pre-1946 numbers are those at (or subsequent to) the grouping.
